Join us for an evening of interdisciplinary disability arts-based performances and discussions: First, a panel that challenges narrow conceptions of rights-based work through poetic, artful narratives, paintings, photographs, and sculptures amid other forms that represent a poetic turn—a shift that summons the clarity that comes from connections made among unruly bodies engaged in cultural politics. Second, a performance of Alone in the Ring followed by a discussion about research-based theatre as a tool to promote attitudinal change, reshape policy, and humanize data around on-stage barriers to inclusion in live performance. Third, an interactive solo performance by Jim Ferris that digs into a family’s past to challenge whiteness, hegemonic bodymind norms, assumptions making up cultural identity, ultimately demonstrating how story is essential to the person we know ourselves to be.
