The Indigenous Voices Awards (IVAs--pronounced eye-vahz) were founded in the spirit of community building and mentorship, holding up the brilliance of Indigenous artists’ words against the twinned forces of stealing and silencing painfully evident in #AppropriationPrize controversy of the Spring of 2017. The first IVA celebration was held in Regina in 2018; this year, we are thrilled to present the Second Annual Indigenous Voices Awards, which exist to support Indigenous literary production in its diversity and complexity, and to help build community among Indigenous artists. No series of awards will change the world. But we hope that the IVAs inspire First Nations, Métis, and Inuit literary artists from coast to coast to coast.
