Join Shilo St. Cyr and Sonya Boyce, Directors, of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Offices at UBC, to learn and practice the first steps of how best to respond to disclosures of sexual violence. It begins by listening, upholding confidentiality, asking what they need, respecting their decisions and empathizing. Drawing on relevant case scenarios, folks will learn about trauma and it’s impacts; barriers to disclosure; how to support, and how to refer someone affected by sexual violence. Lastly, we will talk about how to practice self-care after being exposed to trauma.

Speakers:
  • Shilo St. Cyr, Director of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Offices at UBC
  • Sonya Boyce, Director of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Offices at UBC
