The single-family house dominates North American cities, but Vancouver has broken away from this pattern more completely than any other metropolis. We will reveal the regulatory story behind the evolution of the continent’s “most livable city,” and talk about how people inhabit the urban landscape today. Based on the award winning book The Death and Life of the Single-Family House: Lessons from Vancouver on Building a Livable City (Vancouver: Temple University Press, 2016).
